St. Michael is not the type of place that you'll drive out of the way to see. It's on the western edge of the Twin Cities metro area and there's really not much to see here. However, my cousin and his wife and little boy live here, so I have the pleasure of visiting family whenever I'm in town.
When I was a kid, St. Michael was "country" and seemed a lot farther away from the cities than it does now. Urban sprawl has almost made St. Michael more of a suburb than it used to be. When you drive into town, the first thing you'll probably notice is the steeple of the Catholic church and the newer housing developments that surround the town in what used to be vast and open farm fields.
The above picture shows the church and the ironworks that mark the entrance to the beautiful cemetery.
