Duluth is a great three hour daytrip from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The port city is located on the western tip of Lake Superior about half-way between Minneapolis and the Canadian border. If at all possible, try to set aside a few extra days to see the city and its surrounding area. From Duluth, drive northeast on along the lake's North Shore and you'll discover some amazing, rugged coast and beautiful wooded lands. |
| | As a kid, we occasionally drove up to Duluth to do some camping and to breathe the crisp, clean air in this area. A quick study of Duluth's history will reveal its Ojibwe Indian roots as well as a heavy influence from French settlers. Another interesting historical note is that at one time Duluth boasted more millionaires than any other city in the world! |
