There's also an Omni Hotel in the building, but the main attraction is the world headquarters of this pioneering news organization. You can take a tour and see the 24 hour news being broadcast all over the world. The tours starts by going up the world's longest escalator and lasts a little less than an hour. You'll need to book at least 2 days in advance and hold the reservation with a credit card ($8 per person, no children under 6 years old are allowed).

The Braves are one of Major League Baseball's best and most consistent teams and Turner Field is a great baseball stadium. Catch a game in the "Chop Shop" and learn about the history of this great baseball franchise. Baseball's all-time home-run king, Henry Aaron was a Brave! But, they'll never get over losing to my beloved Minnesota Twins in the 1991 World Series, one of the greatest Fall classics ever. Go Twins!!

Underground Atlanta is right in the middle of town and is a mall full of shops, restaurants and nightclubs. There are over a hundred shops and plenty of good restaurant and food court options.

This is an educational community center with historical information on the great leader of the Civil Rights struggle in America. Personally, I have a great deal of respect for Dr. King and I would highly recommend this for any foreign visitor to the United States. You can learn of the struggles and even the shame of our past and it may help you understand out present and even our future. Dr. King is also buried here. In this picture, I'm standing in front of his grave, which is surround by a pool of water and an eternal flame.

While in Atlanta, you can also visit Dr. King's home church Ebeneezer Baptist. I went to a lively service here once and was welcomed warmly by all in attendance, including Dr. King's widow, Coretta Scott King who was there that day. After church, you can visit Dr. King's birth home in the Sweet Auburn community. He was born here in 1929 and lived here for twelve years.

The Margaret Mitchell House and Museum offers a one and a half hour tour that I would only recommend for a real fan of the author's most famous work, Gone With the Wind. Great book, great movie, but I'm not that into it, so it wasn't that exciting for me. $12/ adults 9:30 am - 5 pm, 7 days a week

Former President Jimmy Carter, one of Georgia's most celebrate native sons, chose Atlanta as the home of his foundation, the Carter Center. You can visit this impressive facility and see a collection of artifacts that Carter himself has accumulated through his extensive worldwide travels. You'll also learn about the benevolent work of this great non-profit organization.

studentpete Fri Dec 16, 2005 17:57 UTC Excerpt from a letter to the gen mgr: Reserv. were for 8:30, seated at the tbl at 9:10, received our salads at 10:20, received our dinners at 11:15, and left at 12:15 am -- unacceptable. Our waitress was terrible; she made no effort to accommodate us. | Andraf Tue Feb 8, 2005 18:01 UTC Great page with lots of good info. I might be going to Atlanta soon and now I'm looking forward to my trip. Good work. | goingsolo Thu Jan 6, 2005 13:40 UTC Interesting tips on a fun city. The Underground has really come a long way recently. | Redlats Fri Nov 26, 2004 22:32 UTC I'm sorry we missed the Carter Centre. I didn't think much of the Coke museum though. I see I still have a few things to check out |
