San Francisco has a great harbor and the ocean is an integral part of the spirit, if not the daily life, of the locals. The marinas, the yachts, the seafood, the smell of the ocean- they are all inescapable.

San Francisco is well-known as a city that is very open to alternative lifestyles. This is a picture of a Gay Pride parade that is one of the largest on the planet and takes place in late June in the Castro.

During the Sixties, the Haight-Ashbury district was the hotbed of American counter culture and the hippie lifestyle. Some of those characteristics are still pretty evident as you can see from this picture. A lot of people come around here to check out the Grateful Dead house at 710 Ashbury Street, where the famous hippy rockers lived between 1965 and that famous summer of 1969.
