San Francisco Off The Beaten Path

Sausalito: Sausalito
  • Tip Rating:
  • Sausalito is about 8 miles north of downtown San Francisco and has been called, 'the Riviera of California.' It's a beautiful, quiet, artistic community that offers an historic downtown, some great view of the city and Angel Island, as well as some great restaurants and parks. If you only have a half a day for a day trip, this would be the place to go.

Muir Woods N. M.: Muir Woods
  • Tip Rating:
  • For you nature lovers, Muir Woods National Monument is where you'll find the famous and magnificent Redwood trees. There are trees that are hollowed out at the base enough that you can drive your car right through!

    Day Trips: A few others . . .
  • Tip Rating:
  • Stanford University in Palo Alto. Stanford is one of the premiere universities in the United States. It's often referred to as 'the Harvard of the West.' This is a picture of the cloister on campus.

You could also visit another prestigious university, the University of California at Berkeley. Berkelely is easy to access via public transportation and is definitely worth the trip. There are some great restaurants and pubs to check out!

And don't forget Oakland just across the Bay Bridge.
