Getting TO/AROUND: I arrived in Luxembourg City by train from Paris, a journey which took 3 hours and 45 minutes and cost 46 Euros. The train station in Luxembourg has all the basics- an information booth, a few snack shops and magazine stands and access to local transportation just outside the front door. A walk to the center of the Old Town takes only about 15 minutes from here.

I also took a train from here to Brussels, which took a touch over 2 1/2 hours and cost 28.60 Euros.

Getting TO/AROUND: I didn't ride the Miniature Train and I'm not necessarily recommending it, but after my overnight stay in Luxembourg City, I felt like a day trip here would be enough. With that in mind, if your time is short, the train might be a good way to get a good overview of the place without doing it all on foot. This town is full of hills, so conserving energy is important.

I think the actual name is the Petrusse Express and you can hop on board at place de la Constitution from 10am to 6pm. The tour focuses on the city's fortifications and takes you down into the Petrusse valley. It takes about an hour and costs 6.20 Euros.

Luxembourg is NOT Europe's smallest sovereign state. Liechtenstein, Monaco and San Marino are smaller in area. Iceland has a smaller population.

A very good "A few thoughts" general tip, I agree 100%. Thanks for letting me know where not to sleep and what to see more than I was lucky to see in 1990' there.

Nice writeup Mark, you're making me regret that I'm overnighting there though ;-) But at least it's not in your hotel LOL
