This cool square on the eastern end of the Old Town is a great place to come and have a drink. There are a couple other bars here that give the place the feeling of being somewhat of a "nightlife central." This place is small and I imagine pretty cramped, especially during the peak season when I'm sure the crowd spills out into the square. Despite the name, there was no jazz on the night I was here.

There is an Irish pub just off of Stradun in the Old Town that supposedly is a great spot during the tourist season. In February, it's pretty dead, but that gave me a chance to sit and talk with the Croatian bartenders and learn some things about local affairs. I had a pint for 24kn (about 4 USD) and hung out awhile talking sports, girls and travel with these guys. Inside, it definitely has that authentic Irish feel (except for the lack of customers!!). The guys told me that between June and August, it's standing room only and most of the people inside are actually tourists from Ireland!

Since it was literally right below my room, I decided to check out this bar. It bills itself as a Spanish Tapas Bar, but because the kitchen is a few centimeters too short to meet the city code and get the proper license, they are unable to serve anything beyond drinks and a cheese, prust and bread plate. They literally only had one Spanish wine (Torres, Sangre de Toro), but I enjoyed sampling some good Croatian vinos. The interior is small, but really warm and cozy.
The bartender on the night I was there was a Canadian guy named Vlaho. His father is from Croatia and Vlaho was studying in an American run university program in Dubrovnik. After hanging out for awhile, a couple older guys wandered in and Vlaho started talking with them. Then, he handed me another glass of wine and said it was from the gentleman on my right. I looked over at him, and Vlaho said, "meet my dad!" We ended up hanging out awhile and had a great time talking about life in both North America and in Croatia.

The Old Town is a great place for a stroll and despite the somewhat chilly weather, there were plenty of people (mostly locals this time of year) out walking around. I saw some people just walking up and down Stradun, the main street in the Old Town. The sidewalk cafes and shops always attract a crowd and make for a beautiful atmosphere and great people watching.
