Centar Kaptol: Modern mall Malls Review

This modern mall is located at the far end of Zagreb's most famous street, Tkalciceva. It's an interesting contrast as you walk along the cafe-lined street of older buildings and suddenly you see the modern mall after about five minutes on your right. Inside the mall, you'll find indoor cafe style seating in food courts and some interesting architectural elements among the many modern shops like Mark's & Spencer . There is also a movie theater here.

Another place to find a modern mall is below the ground underneath the Hotel Esplanade at the Importanne Centar. I didn't go here, but I mention it because it's more conveniently located if you're staying at one of the hotels near the train station.

Cvjetni trg (literally, "Flower Square"): Flower central! Open city markets Review

This square just a short walk from the main square, Trg bana Jelacic is jam-packed with all sorts of flower vendors, although not as many as used to be here before the '80s when the more traditional flower market was ended. You'll also find a Serbian Orthodox Church (Pravoslavna crkva) here as well as a statue of Petar Preradovic, an ethnic Serb who was a military general and a poet of the 19th century.

Ribarnica (Dolac): Fish Market

The Dolac market really has it all, but the best time to come for fish is early in the morning. By the time, Niksa and I arrived at the fish market in the late morning, all that was left was the smell and a few random fish. It's a large enclosed building just off of the terrace where all the fruits and vegetables are sold.

Dolac: Meats of all kinds

Just below the terrace overlooking the square, you'll find an indoor section of the Dolac market where vendors sell all kinds of meat, breads and cheeses. Niksa and I tried some fresh bread with a local variety of young and sour cheese that might not be in existence if the EU infringes on the traditional way of producing it. I didn't care for the sour taste of the cheese, but this is certainly a great place to shop for dinner.

Dolac: Fresh, fresh, fresh fruits and veggies

Dolac is Zagreb's main city market. It is held on a terrace overlooking the main square, Trg bana Jelacica and you'll also have a view of the cathedral from here. You can find all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables on the terrace along with many other goodies in the market hall below.
