I was planning to go to Howth anyways, but after a VT meeting the night before, Peter (VT member Kili99) was gracious enough to offer to show me around himself. There's nothing like a local tour guide!! I would have missed Malahide, if not for Peter, but you don't have to. I discovered later that visiting both Howth and Malahide in one day is an easy day trip.
Both are small coastal towns. Howth is most known for its seafood and its rugged peninsula which culminates at Howth Head in a splash of wave and cliff and a majestic lighthouse. Malahide is known most notably for its castle, well worth a visit for castle lovers, history buffs or eager VT members with some extra film to burn.
Despite some wet weather, it was great to break away from the bustle of Dublin City and visit the outer reaches of Dublin's north county. And a special thanks to Peter for your hospitality, a great lunch and even a brief Irish lesson.
Go raibh míle maith agat!

I would love to visit Ireland! The idea of rain always stopped me though.... but maybe is is time to change my mind about that :-)
Visiting both Howth and Malahide in a day is great, especially if you start out early. Gotta love the DART!!! :o)
Thanks for the helpful hints about Howth.... think I might check it out myself now.
Really glad you enjoyed your trip to beautiful Ireland dispite the weather, maybe next time you go the sun will shine :-))
Lovely travelogue!
Nice page :-) It is of importance to know how the name of a place is pronounced when you should get lost `-) Or you might end up somewhere completely different!
looks like a great day trip from dublin! Will have to go next time I am there :)
Very interesting tips and page! Thanks for sharing!
An excellent page with great tips and photos! I wish that I had known that these two great attractions were so close to Dublin. Too bad about the Talbot family - but very interesting!
Beautiful places!! I guess will try and visit them while i'm staying in Dublin.
