Getting TO/AROUND: Madrid's Barajas Airport is a modern airport featuring shopping and cafes and three terminals. Terminal 1 is for most international flights. Terminal 2 mainly for domestic flights and Terminal 3 is for domestic shuttle and Iberia/Air Nostrum regional flights.

The other great thing about the airport is that the Metro connects it with the city! It's about 15 kilometers (9 miles) outside of Madrid.

Getting TO/AROUND: The taxis in Madrid are readily available. Just wave at the driver when you see his green light on. This means that the cab is available. The taxis are white, mid-sized cars and I didn't have any trouble with dishonest taxi drivers, but I'm sure they exist like in every city I've ever visited. Just be sure you ask the appoximate price when you get in the cab.

Getting TO/AROUND: You can pick up a route map at the EMT kiosk near Puerta del Sol. You can either pay the driver as you get on the bus or purchase 10-ride tickets in advance at the Metro stations or tobacco shops.

Getting TO/AROUND: If you are going somewhere to the south or east of Madrid, this is the station for you. The high speed AVE train which connects Madrid with Sevilla departs from here. I went to Toledo from Atocha, which also serves Cordoba, Malaga, Valencia and Castelon among others. For more information of train travel in Spain, go to: www.renfe.es/ingles/index.html

    Metro (subway): Metro Map

    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: The Metro was my transportion mode of choice. I purchased a 10-trip ticket that cost only 5 Euros and is easy and convenient. When you enter the Metro, you just run the ticket through the ticket machine and it stamps the back of the ticket. The word "ticket" is "billete" in Spanish.
Once you enter the Metro, if you need to connect with another line, you won't need to use another stamp on your ticket, so this should last quite awhile. Pick up a route map at any station.
