Do the people of Sevilla (I'll use the Spanish spelling since VT does!) have a secret that the rest of us don't know about? Judging by the beauty of the city, the preserved histories of ancient cultures and the spectacular cuisine, it seems that they have mastered the art of living. In many ways, Sevilla is a typical city. It has its share of problems, from notorious petty crime and pollution to high unemployment. However, the people of Sevilla seem to know how to enjoy life's blessings- a beautiful river, the sound of a guitar, children and the elderly, to name a few.
I came to Sevilla expecting great things and I was not disappointed. The Moorish influences from centuries ago have endured to this day and have left their mark in the form of exceptional architecture and cuisine. I'll always remember sitting in the shadow of the spectacular Mudejar tower, La Giralda, eating tapas. The thought makes my mouth water just remembering. I can smell oranges painting the air with their scent and see the people of Sevilla smiling and chattering in their typically exuberant fashion and I am grateful to them for coloring my memories so brightly. |
