Any trip to Iceland should include a stop at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an amazing geological landscape. To me, the most impressive part of the park, is being able to visualize the Continental Divide and to get an insight into how the rifting of giant tectonic plates over thousands of years can affect the landscape, climate and cultures of the entire world. |
| | This page will cover many of the sites from Iceland's famous Golden Circle Tour, which is offered by many tour companies and can be arranged through any travel agent, the tourist office in Reykjavik or at your hotel's front desk. Along with Þingvellir National Park, I'll also mention a cool crater, an interesting religious and historic site along with a town full of greenhouses (see my off the beaten path tips). The famous Gulfoss waterfalls, which incidentally, is where the tour gets its name (Gulfoss means "golden falls") and the geysers at, well, Geysir are covered on individual pages. |

Island has always fascinated me, but I haven't gotten any further yet then seeing its airport.
