  • Burano is a beautiful island between Murano and Torcello. I know in my 'tourist traps' section I've listed Burano lace, but make no mistake, Burano Island itself is a great place to visit. What it lacks in cultural sights, it more than makes up for in atmosphere. It is wonderfully peacefully and the brightly colored fisherman's houses are charming. If you visit Burano, come hungry and eat some great seafood at the trattorie.

  • Burano's streets are lined with quaint, colorful homes. When I first arrived off of the boat, I walked into a shop that had a postcard of this very scene in this picture. It was dazzling with the blue skies and bright light shining off of the colorful buildings. I tried to recreate the postcard by snapping this photo, but it just goes to show that when it comes to photography, good lighting is everything!!

  • Murano, famous for its glass-making is the first of the 3 islands you'll come to (Murano-Burano-Torcello). Because of the glass museum and the many glass blowing factories, it is the most popular of the three. Personally, I enjoyed Burano the most, but if you go to Murano, I recommend skipping the glass blowing museum and instead go to an actual glass shop where you can watch the glass being formed.

Great insights on the magic of Venice. Your photographs certainly do entice.

Your pictures and comments show how much you fell under the spell of this magical city- even on a dull day; we had that too.

Fabulous page on Venezia! It was just two weeks ago that I was there but it seems like forever ago and yesterday, all at once. I agree -- I love getting lost in Venice.
