Getting TO/AROUND: Marco Polo Airport -- Don't judge Venice by the arrivals area of the airport. It looks like a hangar with a couple of luggage turnstiles. (This is probably an outdated comment consindering there is a new airport.)

Getting TO/AROUND: Marco Polo Airport -- Once you have claimed your baggage and gone through customs, you'll exit into the public area where you will find the rental cars booths and the ticket window for other transportation options (bus, water taxi, etc.) (This portion may be outdated with the new airport.)

IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME COMING TO VENICE, GO ON THE WATER BUS. The cost of a ticket is 9.81 Euro per person and the ride is longer than going by bus; however, if you ride the regular bus over the causeway, you are arriving on the industrial side of the island and you might wonder why you came at all. Those coming to Venice on a subsequent trip can ride the bus in for 2.70 Euro because they know the treat that awaits them.

Unless you're very well off, don't take a private water taxi ... those run 80 to 85 Euros (or more). Taxi cabs will run about 25 to 30 Euros.

Getting TO/AROUND: ACTV Vaporetto -- The best way to travel around Venice, besides your feet, is on the vaporetto. You can buy a multiple trip pass at the same ticket counter at Marco Polo as you get the water bus ticket. A one-week ticket is 30.99 Euro and well worth the money.
