Entrance to cathedral
Outside into daylight once more - fresh air at last.
The Creation of Adam
Nearing the end, you come face to face with the copy of Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam".
No tripods possible for this shot - I had to handhold it, despite being in almost total darkness except for the light from the sculpture itself.
Main altar
Near the main altar, which can be seen in the lower right of the photo. Even the altar is carved out of salt in this amazing underground cathedral. The only illumination comes from the cross carved into the far wall.
Saints
Statues of saints and angels, near the main altar.
Salt angel
Nearing the main altar now, an angel carved from salt points the way with, trumpet raised to its lips.
Small shrine
Deeper inside, a small shrine lit up amongst the gloom.
Blue ceiling
Moving further into the cathedral, you arrive at this spartan yet impressive chamber - the main feature being its domed ceiling, illuminated in ghostly blue.
The Nave
This is the nave of the cathedral, viewed from a gallery high up at the far end, with the main altar lying just underneath the huge cross carved into the far wall.
The blue and yellow circular object towards the bottom center is a rendition of Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam", set into the floor of the nave.
One of the stations of the cross
Others are more insubstantial - like this one, the shape of a cross formed by cutting salt out of the surrounding material.
This has to be my favourite shot from the entire Salt Cathedral experience, and I was incredibly lucky to get it framed so well. I used a 6 inch high tripod resting on the floor to support the camera, with only a few seconds to make the shot before the tour group moved on.
One of the stations of the cross
When you first enter the Salt Cathedral, you arrive in a tunnel that curves away out of sight, heading in a clockwise direction. At regular intervals, on alternating sides of the tunnel, are alcoves representing the stations of the cross.
Here, you can see a vault of the cathedral extending off into the distance, behind the cross itself.
