"Fulda - A Great Day trip" Fulda by TomInGermany

When I hear the word Fulda I also think of “The Fulda Gap” one of the most logical routes for an inticipated Soviet tank assault on NATO forces during the Cold War (should it become a Hot War). The Fulda Gap would provide terrain perfect for armored forces as they headed toward Frankfurt the heart of US forces in Germany and the location of two airfields that would have been used to bring in reinforcements. While visiting the Fulda should include a visit to Point Alpha, a US Army observation site along the East German border, you should also plan on spending at least a couple of hours in Fulda itself. The town boasts a grand cathedral, ancient churches, a beautiful garden, some half-timbered houses and a witches tower. There is also a nice brewery restaurant I highly recommend.
