"This is London Calling" London-Calling's Profile
Hello, and a very warm welcome to
At time of writing we are the newest VT local chapter having had our inaugural meeting on 19th October 2011, perhaps predictably in an old-fashioned London pub. We are now up and running and very excited about the future.
So who and what are we? At present, there are four of us, although that number will hopefully increase as time goes on. Have a look at the personal pages below (still under construction) for a brief outline of the members involved. Our plan involves various strands.
We shall be organising meets, currently aiming for four a year, where London and nearby members can meet up, although obviously anyone who happens to be in London is more than welcome. The first meeting was a farewell meet for the wonderful Jo104 who is leaving London with her husband to start a new life in Sri Lanka. Jo has been a stalwart of the London VT scene for years so we made sure to give her a good sendoff.
Since then we have hosted several small meetings for VTers visiting London, including ettiewyn, riorich55 and Aussienet
We're currently busy planning the annual London Treasure Hunt and associated events over three days in October. Check the London meetings page for details of these and look out there too for any future meetings we post.
We love to meet visiting members on a more one-on-one basis outside the main meets, if it is at all possible. Check further on in the page for details of that. We will try and help with information if required, we are all fairly clued up on London, although see further down regarding the Forum pages.
For those of you who follow Facebook, please check out and "like" our Facebook page for further updates there as well.
London is one of the major tourist destinations in the world and rightly so, there is just so much to see and do here. For example, in a world recession in April 2011 (which is not even peak season) 3.6 million people visited.
We know that many VT members visit and there are almost 15,000 members shown as living here. It is clearly impractical that with just four of us we will be able to meet all of you but we are a sociable bunch so if you are here please get in touch and if it is possible we will see what we can do.
If you have been a VT member for a while you will know that it is one of the friendliest travel sites on the web. If you are a new member, welcome and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we all do.
Your first port of call for questions about London should be the Travel Forum pages but if you are really stuck, which would be unusual, let us know and we will try to help.
As mentioned at the beginning of this intro, we have only just got going and there are bound to be a few hiccups along the way. No doubt we shall be seeking advice from other local chapters, more of which seem to be popping up all the time, but we are sure that we can make this work, so let the world beat a path to our door.
See you in London soon.
Sarah, Lesley, DAO and Fergy.

Just wondering if you have decided on a place and time for the meeting as we have to meet up with another friend on the Sunday. She may even be able to come to lunch with us (another possible VT recruit). Just trying to plan things as we leave for London on Thursday :-)
Hello there folks, sorry it is a bit less organised than usual. Sarah is in South America and Iam in Northern Ireland at present so it is all a bit of long-distance communication at the minute. Still finalising details but to allow you to plan provisionally, it will be for a lunch so probably meet in a pub about midday and lunch about one, then it is very much play it by ear dependent on what people want to do and, it being UK, the weather! To allow you to plan transport we will be in the area of Primrose Hill / Regents Park, probably the St. John's Wood side. There are decent public transport links. We are looking forward to meeting you and your friend, if she can make it. fergy p.p. London Calling.
Thanks - hope everything works out and we can meet up. Enjoy the rest of your travels. P & J
possibly interested in the meeting but depends on other commitments and which part of London the meeting will be held, please keep me informed before i sign up.
We hope to be at the 18 Nov Sunday lunch meeting (as long as they have a veggie option) as we happen to be in London that weekend :-)
No problem, whatever we decide on for the meal will definitely have a decent veggie option. It will be great to see you.
That's great - we will confirm for definate nearer the time as it will depend where and what time the meal will be - as we also have to meet up with another person in London.
Hi all,
If you haven't noticed yet, have put a few words and pics up in Travelogues on my London pages.
Regards to all
Paul
Hi Fergy, Sarah and Lesley, Thanks so much for organising a brilliant London Treasure Hunt (and evening meals). The route was very informative, I learned lots and enjoyed the company too. Sunday's jaunt to the docklands was a revelation and most enjoyable. Well done for arranging perfect weather on Saturday and Sunday! Congrats to the winning team, roll on next year!
Annemarie, thznk you so much for your kind comments, they are much appreciated. It was great to see you again and we are so glad you could make it. there is no point in us doing these things if people don't come, and it was our wonderful attendees who made it a great weekend. I know we all enjoyed it.
Fergy,

Thanks for everything fellas, we had a lovely time with some lovely people. That was a great Hunt, with plenty of intrigue and cunningly laid out by friend Fergy. The four of us had some great laughs going round. Sorry we had to pull out of the Sat evening meal. Keep up the good work and will see you soon.
Paul
It was our pleasure (fergy here). I know we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it appears that people had a good time so everyone is happy. Hope yo see you and your good lady again very soon.
Certainly and the sooner the better. Thanks once again.
Thanks ever so for a brill Treasure Hunt...I very much enjoyed it as well as learning loads. And I got back in plenty of time for my train. O...and will you be my friend, please? :-)
Of course we'l be your friend officially as if we weren't in reality anyway. Really glad you enjoyed it. Wr could theoretically arrange the best VT meet ever but it is absolutely pointless if nobody turns up. It was all our wonderful attendees that really made it. Thanks for taking the time to join us and hopefully we will meet again soon.

Hi guys, only just found you! Hope to meet up at future events and also help promote VT in London and around the world
Hello Dave, yes we do seem to be one of the best kept secrets on VT! We had a great meet last night and are holding our annual Treasure Hunt today, hope the weather holds. I know it is very short notice but we will be going somewhere tomorrow (to be decided today but probably Greenwich) and you'd be more than welcome to join us if you have a day off. Either send us a mail or comment here or sign up on the members page, we'll check it tonight. Fergy p.p. London-Calling.
Thank you for accepting my friendship
Our pleasure and we hope to see you in London soon.
Hiya all,
Hoping we will be on time Friday evening, but we will certainly be there. Do you know as yet the meeting time for Saturday, as I have the meeting place but no time yet. Main reason is for where I ditch my car for the day because of the underground probs. If you have an idea let me know please.
Thanks a lot and see you all Friday.
Paul
Ok Sarah, thanks for that, see you tomorrow.
Paul
Paul, definitely 1100 at the Pommelers Rest at 196-198 Tower Bridge Road, Tower Bridge (South), SE1 2UN. Looking forward to meeting you. fergty.
