"Summer Holiday in Igls" Igls by zadunajska8

We had a great time in Igls! It is a true contender for the top spot of holidays we have ever had. We booked through the company Inghams who we have used before to visit Slovenia and Andorra. This time we decided to visit Austria and picked Igls as we thought it would be good for both trips into Innsbruck and walks in the Alpine countyside. It lived up to it's promise.
We were very lucky in terms of the weather. Only on 1 morning did we get any rain (which turned to hailstones briefly - but it was still sunny!?!?). It was perhaps a little too hot for me on some days but it would be churlish to complain. Having such great weather made it perfect to explore the countyside around Igls with it's many, well signed walking trails. And once you are worn out from walking you can spend the afternoon having a local beer or wine outside a café or hotel in the beautiful village centre which has some lovely alpine architecture.
The village has great amenities whilst being a quiet and peaceful place. If you are looking for wild nightlife and clubs then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a relaxing and charming village full of local charcater then this is the place to come.
The local church is delightful and we loved hearing the bells ringing out (It was just opposite our hotel room). It all added to the alpine atmosphere. Strangely some people obviously disagree as I have read online reviews (on other websites) where people moan about hearing these church bells and say they ruined their holiday! It takes all sorts I suppose!
The village has a small supermarket (with a good selection of quality Austrian wines), a post office (now combined with the tobacconist) and a helpful tourist information office. There are a few restaurants and cafés but we never actually tried any of them. This is most unusual for us but our hotel was serving such good and varied food every day that we didn't want to miss it!
- Pros:A beautiful and peaceful place, great base to explore the area.
- Cons:There are no Cons
- In a nutshell:Great place from which to explore this wonderful area.
