"The First Home of Our First President" George Washington Birthplace National Monument by Ewingjr98
George Washington Birthplace National Monument Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 62 photos
The birthplace of George Washington, our nation's first President, is along Pope's Creek in Virginia maybe 60 miles south of Washington DC. He was born in 1732 on the family plantation, called Pope's Creek Farm.
Not eight miles to the west, also along the Potomac is Monroe Hall, the birthplace of President James Monroe (1758). About six miles to the east of Washington's birthplace is Stratford Hall, birthplace of General Robert E. Lee (1807), hero of the Confederacy.
Wow, three great Americans born at different times, within 15 miles of each other.
Besides these great historic sites, in the same area you will find a cool little beach town called Colonial Beach. Its nickname is Golf Cart Town because these little scooters are street legal here. The beaches look pretty nice, there is some history in the town Alexander Graham Bell's home for example), and there are a handful of good seafood restaurants.
