"Lewes -- "The First Town in the First State"" Lewes by Ewingjr98

Lewes Travel Guide: 30 reviews and 66 photos

Lewes was founded in 1631 with the name Zwaanendael. The oldest existing homes in the town were built about 1665. They also have the Zwaanendael Museum.

Nearby is Cape Henlopen with one of 11 World War II concrete observation towers along the Delaware coast.

Leaving from Lewes is the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, which goes across the Delaware Bay to New Jersey.

I visited Lewes three or four times while living in Dover, 20 miles or so away. We once fished with Capt Tom Smith of Doctor's Orders, I had a great meal at the Blue Plate Diner, and I went to Cape Henlopen Beach.
