Asilomar Conference Grounds and other Pacific Grove, CA Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

The Asilomar Conference Grounds at Asilomar State Beach is owned by California State Parks. Built in 1913 by California architect Julia Morgan (who also built the Hearst Mansion), the site was originally a YWCA. Since 1956 California has owned the site, and has a private contractor called Delaware North to operate the conference centers, restaurant and lodging. The conference grounds have several facilities of varying sizes for meetings, plus 314 rooms, many with great views of the Pacific Ocean. Oddly enough the rooms do not have TVs or phones. In the off season, mid-week rates are as low as $109 a night while peak rates can be closer to $200... not bad considering you are just 1/2 mile from the exclusive Spanish Bay Resort which shares the smae view for several hundred dollars a night more (and it's easy walking distance, so you can enjoy their bars, restaurants, and bagpiper)!

While the rooms and the food might leave a lot to be desired, the location is peaceful and beautiful, next to the beaches, wildlife, and with stunning views of the sunset over the Pacific!

The Seven Gables Inn was constructed in 1886 and is one of the finest lodging options available in Pacific Grove. After acquiring the Grand View Inn in recent years, the combined hotel has some 25 rooms in three buildings ranging in price from $175 to $505. The Sea View Cottage also on the property was built in 1882. The B&B is located right along Ocean View Drive in PG within just a quick stroll of Lovers Point and about a mile from Cannery Row.

The area around Lovers Point is certainly one of the nicest places in PG to get a hotel, both because you have fabulous views of Monterey Bay and because it is still an easy walk to downtown. From this area you also have easy access to the coastal recreation trail connecting you to Monterey by foot or bicycle. There are four key hotels along the water at Lovers Point from which to choose.

Lovers Point Inn (http://www.loverspointinnpg.com/ or 866-465-8192) is the three-story pink hotel right next to Borg's Motel. Winter rates are as low as $70 and summer rates peak at around $140. Their rooms have either one or two queen beds.

Borg's Motel (http://www.borgsoceanfrontmotel.com/ or 831-375-2406) is easily the most plain and least romantic of this group of hotels, but is also the best deal. Winter rates are as low as $80 a night while summer rates peak at about $160 for ocean view rooms. This hotel
