| Heading toward Pebble Beach from Carmel |
| | Carmel has some beautiful beaches bordering small cliffs and steep hills, much of it in view from Highway 1. The town features the Carmel Mission as the main historic site, while downtown offers a wide variety of upscale shops and restaurants in a small village atmosphere. Carmel is about 15 miles from picturesque Bixby Bridge and just down the road from posh Pebble Beach and its array of golf courses along the beach. Clint Eastwood was mayor of Carmel back in the 70s, and you can stop into Hogsbreath Saloon which he still owns, but leases out to another company to operate, and where he still occasionally visits. He also owns the Mission Ranch, a local favorite restaurant and inn near the Carmel Mission, and the Tehama Golf Club near Carmel Valley. I recently broke out my Pebble Beach tips into a separate VT page, so check it out! Note...if you want a tee time at one of the big three Pebble Beach courses (Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Spanish Bay), you have to stay at a Pebble Beach resort which costs a minimum of $525 a night, plus greens fees. The Monterey County Weekly "Best Of 2006 Readers' Picks" named Carmel Beach as the best Beach and the best Place to Watch the Sunset in Monterey County! |

LoriPori Sat Jul 12, 2008 23:48 UTC Just wonderful Carmel page, esp. the restaurants and the Carmel Mission. Great info | SteveOSF Tue Mar 4, 2008 07:04 UTC Another great page for a town near your home turf! I enjoyed your overview of Carmel. | nickandchris Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:23 UTC Such a spectacular coastline. Shame it's so exclusively expensive!! I'm also a real sucker for sunsets..... | atufft Mon Mar 19, 2007 06:19 UTC Nice round-up of some Carmel activities. Point Lobos is nice, not the best, but very nice. Avenue of the Humbolt Redwoods and Calaveras Big Trees are also high on my list. |
