| | Liechtenstein is a tiny country nestled between Austria and Switzerland. With only 30,000 people, no army, German language, and the Swiss Francs as its currency, it almost seems part of Switzerland. Liechtenstein is ruled by a constitutional monarchy with a relatively weak parliament. The seat of government is in Vaduz. The entire nation is only 16 miles long and 4 miles wide at its widest point.
This area first came under the control of Austria's Liechtenstein family in the late 1600s and early 1700s. By 1815, it was an independent, self-ruling nation. During World War I and II, Liechtenstein, like Switzerland, maintain its neutrality and was not invaded. |
