Spittelburg has old-style cobblestone streets and is known for its galleries, theaters, arts and restaurants. We also heard Spittelburg was another top nightlife area of Vienna, so we decided to head to this area for dinner on our second evening in town. We wandered around several streets and didn't see much life of any kind, probably because it was early February. Finally, we swung by Centimeter II and this large restaurant and bar was packed full of people! We entered and ordered a large .5 Liter stein of local beer, then realized many of the dishes in the menu could be ordered by length, hence the name! We started with the bread and three cheeses (brot mit drei kase) at 20 centimeters for 3 EUR. For our main courses we had the Berner Wurstel for 6.5 EUR (basically sausages wrapped in bacon with fries) and the Holzhackertelle (wood chopper's plate) which is a mix of meats, cheeses, and vegetables for 7 EUR.

We had a tough time finding the "right" restaurant around the city center. Not wanting to get sucked into a pricey touristy place, we wandered until we found a spot with a few locals. The restaurant we ended up in is called Original Wiener Palatschinkenpfandl. Though the downstairs is a very large and looks like a comfortable bar area at night, for lunch you are stuck in the small, sterile upstairs. The staff here was friendly and the menu in several languages. Though more expensive than I expected, the food was tasty and the beer was well-priced at 2.2 Euro for .3 liter of Hirter Pils. I had the "Gemischter Gusto" which was a skillet of veggies, meat and cheese for 8.50 Euro. My friend had the traditional Wienerschnitzel which was very good, but expensive at 11 Euros. She also tried the soup which cost 2.80 Euro. Open 10 am to midnight.

We stopped at Die Wienerin to grab a drink and warm up for a few hours. I had 2 Edelweiss Hefebiers and Laura has one gluhwein for a total bill od 11.10 EUR. This seemed to be a very nice restaurant with many local specialties at a good price for the location. For example, schnitzel was less than 10 EUR, soups were around 2.5 EUR and the most expensive steak was only 14 EUR.
