| American Cemetery at Omaha Beach |
Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer is the location of the D-Day beach called Omaha, and it is still home of a great American Cemetery.
Omaha Beach is well-known as the most difficult fighting on that June 6th, 1944. Not only was the American 1st Infantry Division up against a strong foe in the German 352nd Division, but this stretch of beach also has limited access through the cliffs, and these access points were very well defended. |

| | At the end of the first day, the Americans had already been rocked with about 2,400 dead, wounded, or missing, but they were able to land 34,000 soldiers on the beach to begin the move inland. |

Yaqui Mon May 18, 2009 17:27 UTC Thank you for encluding Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer -- Omaha Beach! My uncle just passed away and he survived Normandy. He said he tooks pictures while the bullets flew by his head...he was a character. Lovely page! | SteveOSF Wed Oct 15, 2008 16:35 UTC Excellent page on this historic location. Omaha Beach seems peaceful in the photos. But it sure was not peaceful June 6, 1944. There sure are a lot of crosses in that cemetery. |
