Sukumvit is an enormous area of shopping, restaurants, bars, and massive quantities of people. I arrived in a downpour of rain, and the streets will still crowded with pedestrians and cars. Luckily the rain let up around 9pm, so I didn't get soaked! The most well known nightlife spots are Nana Plaza, Washington Square, and Soi Cowboy. I completely avoided Nana Plaza due to its seedy reputation, despite my hotel being immediately next door. Washington Square was just too far away to walk, but I hear it has much more traditional entertainment such as live music. I did visit Soi Cowboy, and was somewhat disappointed to learn that most of the bars are "hostess bars." But many of them also had pool tables, live music, and cheap drinks.

Nana Hotel Nightclub

The new law in Bangkok is that all bars and clubs close around 1am. However, there seem to be a few places that stay open past this curfew. One of these is the nightclub on the first floor of the Nana Hotel. At 2am, it was still packed with men and women of all ages! The music most mostly modern western dance hits. A great time!

Xcite Night Club

Xcite is an enormous place with a live band, a big dancing area, etc... this club is located close to the bridge that crosses over to Thonburi (still in Bangkok side), in the same compound is a restaurant / pub called "Lighthouse". The customers are almost exclusively Thai and the bands play until the wee hours of the morning.
