"Dudeldorf & Surrounding Villages" Dudeldorf by Ewingjr98

Dudeldorf Travel Guide: 24 reviews and 51 photos

I was very lucky to get the opportunity to live in the small village of Dudeldorf, Germany. Dudeldorf (pronounced doodle-dorf) is an ancient walled village. The first references to Dudeldorf are from the late 700s AD, and its city walls were constructed in the 1400s.

Dudeldorf also hosts a variety of other historical treasures. Dudeldorf castle was built in the 1800s, though another castle occupied this site as far back as 1052. Johannesbrunnen is a nice fountain near the castle, completed around 1800. St. Maria Koenigin Church is next to the castle -- though only built in 1910, it is the fourth church to occupy this site since 1226. The Romantique Hotel occupies the building formerly used by the old brewery -- built in 1723. In the Ordorf section of Dudeldorf is Pfarrkirche St. Martin, which has sections completed as long ago as 1570.

Don't you mean Dusseldorf?

When I first arrived in Dudeldorf, everyone back home had the same question: "Don't you mean Dusseldorf." Of course not! Dusseldorf is two hours north of here.

Just where is Dudeldorf? It is in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz Palatinate, in the Eiffel Region. Trier is the closest large city, 45 minutes to the south. Dudeldorf rests beside German Route B-50 right between the larger towns of Bitburg (beer!) and Wittlich (famous for its annual Pig Roast).

Dudeldorf Today

About 1,300 people live in Dudeldorf including a large number of US Air Force personnel stationed at nearby Spangdahlem Air Base. The town has a school, a bank, about four restaurants, two butcher shops, a gas station, a bakery, an auto repair shop, a hotel, and not much else!

The most fond memories of my life come from this small village and Annies! If anyone meets Henry Speller in Spiecher Tell him his brother Jim said hello!
