"Disappointing" Vigo by Pethol

The harbor

This is where far most tourists come in. My first disappointment was to see a shopping mall in which everything is overpriced. Every tour recommended is designed just to rip off tourists. The goods you can find anywhere on the planet. The harbor itself is clean, which is probably the only positive thing you can say about it.

Behind the shopping mall, you'll find a street market and one street further in, you'll find fishfood restaurants with apparent "local" food. There is nothing special about the food though.

The coffeeshops

In any area of where there are tourists, there are beggars/drug addicts running around constantly to beg for money and cigarettes. This is obviously one of the largest downparts of this city. The coffeeshops are overpriced and really bad. A local told us, that before the EU, that "everything was of high standard and much cheaper."

Of the ones we visited, the worst by far, was the one called "Puerta Principe" where the personnel has an awful attitude, the food is recycled/re-used, the service really bad and the place is generally a bio-toxic bomb.

There is, like in many other European cities and enormous amount of money spend of bad art, which cause one to think, that there are someone in the governments laundering money big time. Businesses are falling apart, which is apparent in the general street picture, where a fourth of the shops are empty and closed. There is a park in front of an immensely ugly gray and badly kept municipality building. The park was once a fort, and there is a little notion of Celtic presence there, which is actually the highlight of the city. However, the Catholic church has made sure to *** of their territory by having raised crosses and buildings everywhere to make sure that people know whom to fear. The park itself is nice. There is one coffeeshop, that is even more overpriced than any of the places nearer the waterfront and it is really bad on top of it.

If you're the type that is afraid of nature, the park is not for you. Then you should keep to the drug-addicts and the beggars around the squares.

Pros and Cons
