    • Ascona is one of the many very pituresque lakeside towns in this region. It is situated on the Lago Maggiore, a good half hours drive from Lugano. Nice outdoors restaurants, absolutely ideal for a drink and people watching. It is also an artists place with many galleries and lovely boutiques. Ascona is loved by the Germans, so much so, that the waiters might address you in German, which doesn't make the locals too happy, because they are worried their language might become an endangered species.

    • Evening in Vico Morcote on the foot of Monte Arbostora. It is missed by most tourists, who visit only the better known village of Morcote down on the lakeside.
    In Vico Morcote hidden around the corner of the narrow streets, or under the pergola roof of wineleaves are a couple of quaint grottos where you can enjoy a nice meal of local delicacies.
    The ristorante Bella Vista on the other hand is one of my favorite restaurants for a romantic evening. On a warm summernight you can sit outside on the terrace full of flowers, overlooking the rooftops of Morcote and the splendide view of lake Lugano. The food is excellent too, try the lobster menu, beginning with a tiepid lobstersalad followed by pasta with a lobstersauce, first-rate!

    • Do you love a nice glass of wine? Then you have come to the right place, because Ticino also means winecountry and Lugano is in the middle of it. Great rich Merlots are produced here and it is possible to taste and visit some winecellars. Most of them are in the Mendrisio area, where a wine tasting can be organised, but please call first. Go to a local wine shop and ask.

    If you love to shop, you can't miss this outlet shopping center, only half an hour by car away from Lugano. All the big designers are represented and the prices are cheeeeap! Even the chic ladies from Milan come and shop at the Foxtown Shopping Center in Mendrisio.
    Our grapes are extremly sweet, that there is need for a special bodyguard to scare the birds away!
