The tv series and research vessel Thalassa

WWII had an impact here as the town was a submarine base and heavily bombarded by allied troops,so it was rebuilt
However plenty of submarine old base to see and thalassa boat. I live not far from here.

a bit of history
The town was created in 1666 to support the trade with the indies (americas) from St Louis. In 1770,the king buys the city to keep as a royal arsenal. Napoleon I creates a war marine harbor; the city is occupied from 1940 in WWII, and chosen by the nazis a s submarine base. In April 1943 huge bombardments by allies planes destroyed the city to 80% loss. It sufferes from the war until its liberation on May 7 1945.
