Nantes is said to have been founded in the 1C BC by the Namnètes, even if its commercial strengh dates from the 3C AD with the Christianitation of the city, and the building of the first Cathedral of Nantes. The city has it Breton origins and was acquired by the French at the end of the 7C AD.
