Manila is like my pages here on VT - never finished and in progrees the whole time.Sometime I hate the town but mostly I love it.The pollution and the heat is sometimes so strong that you just want to leave - go on a beach - or just go anywhere just to get away. But then the evening start, all the lights turns on,the heat turns down and people start relaxing and the streets starting a new kind of life.In Malate the sound of music starts from all the cafees and music places. All the different parts of Manila have its own way to say welcome to the dark,to the not so hot clima and start enjoy the life after a long dusty polluted busy day.And then the hate turns to love and you can use hours just walking around, take a drink and let you entertain of all the sweet people. But as always in a big city : take care! |
| | Manila is from the biggest skyline to the deepest slum.A city from the very rich to the poorest you have never seen before and in the start you feel pain pain and pain to see the difference between the rich and the poor. But after some time you learn to accept it as the strange way life can be.But in this strange city even the poor look happy. You see smiling faces everywhere and you feel the difference from the cold west where we not even look at each other on the street. And after a litle longer time its feels like...home ! |

nimato Sat Feb 2, 2008 09:31 UTC It's not only the Japanese who destroyed the once beautiful Manila. As they retreated they burned the houses and buildings and brutally killed the people in between (est. at 100,000). The Americans bombed the remainder. | Cancelari Fri Jul 20, 2007 15:06 UTC I don't find this fair: while an american kid who's caught doing drugs will end up in http://www.drugrehab.net/ or in a juvenile correction center, another kid from Manila will end up in jail for the same crime. | sirenna Fri Nov 4, 2005 17:41 UTC Phew, just looking at the smog in the main picture made me want to cough! Nice page though! | Tijavi Thu Aug 5, 2004 12:03 UTC Yes, indeed Manila is a city of many contrasts. Still, I do love this city. Great site! |
