| | Symbol of Krakow There's a very cute legend about the symbol of Krakow - the dragon. According to it now where the wawel castle stands, long time ago (around VIIIth century) down the hill there was a peaceful settlement. At one part of the hill there was a cave with a sleeping dragon. young generation didn't believe in the stories of their parents and grandparents about the dragon and decided to go and check it one day... they awakened dragon and had to run feeling heat at their backs. Since then the dragon became very angry and started going to the settlement eating sheep, sometimes children and women. And so it was till a wise man named Krakus or Krac put the paste from sulphur on the sheep, dragon ate them and became very thirsty. So he went to the Vistula river and drank drank draaaaank till he got drunk :) lol kidding.. he drank and exploded! Krakus became a ruler of the village and built a stronghold on the Hill (in VIII century there was really a ruler name like this), city got his name "Krakow". Now when you're in Wawel Castle down there at the river you'll see a sculpture of the dragon! so..beware =) |
