My modest tribute to New York City...

by Laura_Mexico - last update: Apr 16, 2005

The glorious WTC twin towers
I had been in NYC only once, till the spring of 2005 when I got to visit it again.

The first impression I had from this huge, noisy, polluted and crowded city wasn't good, I actually didn't like it --especially after being in Washington DC-- and I was willing to leave as soon as possible. I had 3 days to tour the city and I was able to see some beautiful places, and I even started thinking that NYC wasn't so awful after all. I started thinking that it was... hmmm...'interesting'.

After September 11, I felt sorry for the town and the people that live there and decided to build a site about New York even though I didn't get to see much of the town during my trip and I couldn't offer much information about it. However, I was sure there were some great things I wasn't able to see, and which I hoped to see the next time I went there.

Well, the time for that second trip finally came! This time I got to see more of NYC and, instead of doing all the touristy stuff, I tried to get a more "local" feeling of the city, stroll its streets, do some activities that NY dwellers normally do. I hope I achieved my goal and that the info I'm providing is useful in case you're planning to go there soon.

I only have one picture of the Twin Towers, taken during my first trip in 1999, and I wanted it to stay as the symbol of this page... It'll take me a while to finish it so please come back.... I hope you enjoy it!

Pros:"Wonderful art offer, lots of nightlife, tourist spots..."
Cons:"Expensive, crowded, dirty, too similar to my own city! Oh, and buried among the skycrapers... yuck."
In A Nutshell:"And interesting city you gotta visit at least once in your life!"

Can you name the dangerous neighborhoods around Columbia? What are the safer residential neighborhoods? Thanks.
