For years I had heard people speaking great things about Boston. I personally was never too allured to visit this city, especially because it's really far from where I live, but I got the chance to do so as my ex-boss moved back there after living in Mexico City for a while and invited me to spend a few weeks with him and his wife. So I thought it would be great to visit a brand new place for me, and organize a trip around that area (US-Canadian eastern border) to take full advantage of my visit to my friends and get to know some other places I had always wanted to visit (specifically
Montreal and
Quebec, which I also have built pages for).
Boston turned out to be more beautiful than I expected/imagined. Although I'm not very fond of USA and I don't think they have a lot of places worth a visit, this definitely is a place I would go back to. The ancient houses & buildings, the history the entire city encloses, the monuments and the environment in general surprised me very pleasantly. Not to mention my hosts' hospitality which was awesome, and the opportunity they gave me of meeting new great people, see new places, eat new stuff. It was a really unforgettable trip and I would be more than happy to repeat the experience.
The only thing I regretted was visiting Boston while the winter was still on. Even though it was wonderful to see the snowfall for the first time in my life, the weather was a major "party-pooper" so to speak and I would have liked to have a more clement weather in order to be able to appreciate the town to its fullest. There were days when I didn't even want to go out -- it was so cold outside (for my parameters, mind you) and the rain didn't help.... Most of my pictures aren't that beautiful because the gray & rainy days were not the best light-providers for my pics. Most of them look rather gloomy and sad. I was only able to make a few nice pictures towards the end of my trip, when the spring finally started taking over (by mid April...!!). I wish I could have enjoyed more of those sunny days (I only got to enjoy 1 or 2), when the city and the parks look sooooooo much more beautiful. Maybe in my next trip...
So I think the moral of the story is:
Boston is BEAUTIFUL and a place you oughta visit if you get the chance....... but if you can avoid going there during the winter, BETTER FOR YOU (unless you're a North-Pole inhabitant and find this weather acceptable and tolerable)!!! I don't know if Boston gets crowded with tourists during the summer, but going there by mid-spring (late April or so) will provide a better weather and not so many tourists around, which will allow you to enjoy the attractions even more.
I am
hopelessly in love with Boston because I don't think I'd ever be able to live here -- weather is too extreme for me, and I've never liked the idea of living in the USA. Other than that, it would be a town I'd LOVE to live in. So I guess I'll have to keep it as a future travel destination only!
