Favorite Thing: Walk, walk and walk, look around you because you will find ruins and vestiges all over the city...... admire the monuments, go inside every museum, and don't lose the chance to speak with the romans, who are very nice people!
Fondest Memory: Rome is a fascinating town, full of warm people, nice places, impressive monuments and buildings, and history, LOTS of it. Even if you stay a month, like I did, you just won't be able to see all the things there are to see. If you have a long time to tour Rome make the best out of it; if you don't, try to visit the very main sites at least. Free tourist information and maps (VERY USEFUL!!) are available in several spots around the city. Transportation is easy, and you can always walk cause Rome isn't that big - the main/central part of it anyway. Try walking farther south from downtown too, there are a few nice churches and monuments you might like to see and which aren't very popular. Stroll around the parks, especially Villa Borghese. At night go have a beer or an ice cream in the numerous spots open till 2-3 AM (there are bars that even stay open all night long), it's not necessary to go to a big pub or to a disco to have fun. Rome's streets and squares are very lively at night and it's probably even more fun to be walking around the city than staying in one single place, and it's quite safe to walk around Rome at night. Try also climbing some of the hills, like Gianicolo, to have a panoramic view of Rome and breathe purer air (the picture you're looking at was taken from up there). And ALWAYS have your camera with you, you never know when you'll come across a nice building or view of this enchanting town which never stops surprising you!!

Favorite Thing: This is a nice view of the bridges of Rome on the Tevere river -- this picture was taken from the top of the Castel St. Angelo, but you can have this wonderful view anytime you stroll along the river, which I highly recommend you to do!!
Fondest Memory: I was with my friend Kalle close to the Castel St. Angelo when I showed him this view and he liked it very much and was impressed with the beauty of it... Indeed, he just wrote & recorded a song called 'Bridges of Rome' (which is lovely, too!) and this picture inspired him quite a bit...

Favorite Thing: This is the "Roman Capitol" ( il Capitolio), and right on both sides of this central square in front of it you will find 2 identical buildings which house the Musei Capitolini, which are REALLY big and full of interesting pieces of art. You will spend a good time getting here (you have to walk uphill) and touring the museums, and it's worth it!

General Tips: Take a bus tour around Rome

Favorite Thing: Take a bus tour around Rome!!
Fondest Memory: Whether you're gonna stay in Rome for a long time or only for a couple of days, I strongly recommend that you take a bus tour around the city. It enables you to see the main attractions in no time, make some pictures, and this is very good when you don't have enough time to visit every single place on your own. If you're planning to stay in Rome for a long time, it enables you to get a general idea of what the town looks like, where the different attractions are located, and even project your future visits to all the different places. Of course you can't see everything while riding the bus, but I could make some gorgeous pictures while touring the town this way and it gave me a broad panorama of what Rome was. Plus, these tours aren't expensive and it only takes you a couple of hours to tour the city, and besides you have the possibility of getting on and off the bus as many times as you want along the day, in case you want to stop at a specific place for a while. These tours depart from the Termini train station (right in front of it) and you can purchase the tickets there, in Piazza dei Cinquecento. You can see beautiful places & monuments such as the one on this picture (which was taken FROM THE BUS!), called the Vittoriano and which I think is my favorite monument in all Rome!
