Although Seattle is utilized as an embarkation port for cruise liners on their way to Canada and Alaska, it is a city worth visiting in its own right. It is a modern cosmopolitan city. It is the home of the Grunge and the Seattle Seahawks and also of Pearl Jam.
Seattle is lucky enough to have the makings of a modern city and the advantages of being near Puget Sound. This makes the city greener and more interesting.
Down by the water which is called Puget Sound (a vast expanse of water) there are various piers. Many of them have been turned into shops and restaurants. In fact the first Starbucks was born here at 1912 Pike Place. Several of the restaurants serve seafood such as lobster and crab etc. Eating at the Crab Pot Restaurant is an experience in itself. The Sea Feast consists of a variety of crab, clams, mussels, shrimp in the shell, salmon, halibut, oysters, potatoes, corn on the cob, and andouille sausage steamed with mouth watering spices and poured right on your table without any plates or cutlery, just a bib and a mallet and you go at it! http://www.pier57seattle.com/restaurants.html
Another place worth visiting is Pike Place Market where you can join the crowd gathered in front of the rowdy fishermen who expertly toss their catch across the counter place. Pioneer Square, a well-known landmark, is a historic attraction featuring restaurants, art, nightclubs, and historic tours.
Speaking of landmarks, definitely the most famous landmark in Seattle is the Space Needle. This has a rotating SkyCity Restaurant where one can dine and watch the city of Seattle go by – literally. The view from the top is breathtaking especially over the Sound.
Another interesting place to visit is the Seattle Aquarium. Whether you visit once or once a month, you will always see, touch and explore something new and exciting every time.
Seattle is also renowned for its unique museums. There is the Museum of Flight, the Museum of Art, the Museum of History and Industry as well as the Museum of Science Fiction and the Museum of Music where you can see various instruments which belonged to famous bands eg. Nirvana. Purchasing a City Pass will get you in to all these attractions at a discount as well as give you priority entrance.
- Pros:Near to the sea - good concerts - good coffee
- Cons:All attractionscan be seen in a short time
- In a nutshell:Seattle - a totally new experience
