Banaue-Sagada Route

My trip to Sagada started with a captivating side trip to the UNESCO's World Heritage Banaue Rice Terraces. The road trip was thrilling and at the same time physically taxing. We left Manila at around 2am and took us a total of 13 hours to get to finally conquer Sagada Mountain Province. Using our newly acquired Toyota van, the trip through the zigzag, high terrain and bumpy road was just enough to fantasize what awaits us at Sagada.

Where heaven and earth meets

While en route to the Mountain Province you need not imagine how far you are from the urban center, you can actually see how many mountains you have crossed and how the clouds surrounds the car as it slowly creeps through the zigzag road.

One of a kind experience

After having starved ourselves with the road trip, we were finally welcomed by the cool breeze of Sagada. We immediately took our lunch and registered for a tour coordinator at the town hall. Our tour guides took us to St. Mary's Church, Calvary hill, echo valley, the hanging coffins, lake danom and Sagada pottery. Whew that was just our first day. At the first strike of sunlight were back on the road to start our trail walk towards Bomod-ok Falls. After half day of walking we took our lunch and went straight to the Lumiang cave and Sumaguing cave. We had a long night afterwards with a throbbing feet and backache we drowned ourselves with beer and nuts at our guesthouse. The next morning we had our breakfast before embarking on our trip back using the Benguet route.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Don't miss out on caving and mountain trekking.
  • Cons:Pepare yourself for the long road ahead.
