Colaba and Fort area are good places for tourist to stay while in Mumbai. It's close to the main sights like Gateway of India, Prince of Wales Museum, Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach, and has several budget accommodation.

Colaba Causeway (Shahid Bhagat Singh Road)is a tourist ghetto, but if you take it easy it's a nice and strange experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Good food, beautiful old buildings
Cons:Poverty, caste system...
In a nutshell:Chaotic charm...
