I had the opportunity to visit some of the nicer bays on the island. The sea at Cala Rossa was an amazingly clear blue with excellent visibility with lovely white sand. A small beach dominated the bay. Not wise to stop in this bay in anything from a north westerly to south easterly wind/swell. The bay is located just south of the harbour.

Cala Blu is further round to the south and is another lovely spot protected from the northerly winds.

Punts Lunga is also worth a visit though the sea was noticeably colder there than anywhere else, at least on the day we visited.

Favignana Harbour is very small with limited places for a yacht to moor. Access is behind a small pier where the depths are dangerously low for a yacht of some size. Be guided by the mooring men and follow them in. You need to trust them!! The harbour uncomfortable in swells coming fro the north west round to south east although a berth as far in the internal harbour should be requested.

The town is small but boasts a significant number of food shops, the ubiquitous souvenir shops, and a number of shops selling typical Sicilian foods. There are quite a large number of restaurants giving quite a choice, although the menus are all fairly similar.

• Pros:Clear and clean seas with a number of nice bays and beaches.
• Cons:Pretty busy
• In a nutshell:Definately worth a visit, more so by boat than on land.
