"weekend in Goodland" Goodland by brendareed

We were on another trip across the vast expanse of the United States, this time not going quite all the way from the east coast to the west coast, but rather this time our destination was Colorado. Getting ready to move to Europe, we drove our van from Maryland to Colorado to give it to family (and have one final playtime with the grandson before the big move!).

This was our first time driving through Kansas; although we’d made five previous cross-country drives, we somehow managed to neglect this rectangular shaped state made popular by Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. While we found the people to be super friendly, we just didn’t see all that much in the state to warrant a special trip back.

And so it was as we were driving along I-70 across the vast (and rather dull in this part) state of Kansas, we read about the Van Gogh painting in Goodland. And so we simple had to stop.

We found the easel and then we found some lunch. Before we knew it, it was time to continue on our journey. But, I’ll always remember that huge painting in western Kansas!
