Myself and 2 girlfriends took a long weekend (5 days) trip to Todos Santos. We arrived by bus only to find that there were no local buses or taxis. Well, rumor had it there was one taxi in town, but we never saw it. We ended up getting around on foot and in some cases hitch-hiking. I wouldn't recommend hitch-hiking due to obvious safety reasons, but we encountered such generous people in Todos Santos that we took some calculated risks.
Jenny's gorgeous modern hotel had plenty of rustic Mexican touches but all the amenities and comfort one is accustomed to in the USA. Can't complain about a single aspect of our stay there, especially not the little tiny bar and sushi at night, the salt-water pool, or the homemade breakfast. The room had amazing mattresses imported from the US, and an absolutely stunning shower area. It was about a 20 minute enjoyable walk into town. Most other guests had rented a car, but we rather enjoyed our walks and got some good exercise this way. It was a great way to burn off the copious amounts of "George's Tacos" that we ate every day, a delicious road-side stand that made fresh fish and shrimp tacos.
A ranch right next door to Hotelito offered horseback school in Dressage. Her horses were fit and healthy and responsive. We took a 3 hour ride through the desert to high above the sea and rode back galloping on the beach. Worth every penny to ride these well-trained animals. These are not "trail" horses which ride the same route every time at a plodding pace. These horses will race each other on the beach, and respond to the classic leg signals and vocal commands. We also saw whales migrating close to the shore during our ride and were accompanied by the owner's gorgeous Belgian shepherd dog.
- Pros:Out of the way (4 hours by bus), the beach isn't good for swimming due to rough surf, tourists tended to be older/expat, hard to buy quality supplies such as sunscreen
- Cons:Out of the way :), delicious fish tacos, great hotels, no frat boys, gorgeous desert landscape
- In a nutshell:If you can't relax here, you really can't relax anywhere!
