I heard Vietnam known to be called as the “Motorbike City” but when we arrived in HCMC; I never imagined that the roads will be “literally” full of motorbikes.
Before we planned to visit this country, my friends and I received a lot of warnings from other travelers. They say that there are thieves everywhere, restaurants and foods are dirty, motorbikers do not care who crosses the streets etc. but during our stay in Vietnam, I see everything as normal.
Anywhere in the world you go, there are thieves. Anywhere you go, there are those dirty restaurants. However, it’s only in Vietnam you’ll see motorbikes meet up in an intersected road (so be careful in crossing the streets). These things are normal; it’s just good that we haven’t encountered any thieves or something bad happened to us.
When travelling it’s good to know an overview of the place you’re going to visit but it doesn’t mean that you have to close your mind and focus on the information you just heard or read. The best thing to know if the information you got is true- is to experience the real thing.
Most of Vietnamese people speak English and very polite. If you try to converse with the locals who don’t speak English, when you approach them even they have this instinct that you will talk in a foreign language, they will wait for you to speak then that will be the only time they will apologize and say that they don’t speak English.
- Pros:Great food!
- Cons:motorbikes cross the street anywhere
- In a nutshell:Vietnam: truly, a motorbike city!

Hi Sherry, thank you so much for the wonderful postcard from Vietnam. From the postmark date I see it arrived very quickly! I look forward to reading your Vietnam pages when you build them so please let me know. Thanks again, and I'm so sorry that I was unable to send postcards from Australia as, even though I printed labels, when I arrived in Australia they weren't among my things. Still haven't found them! Best wishes,Sylvia.
