Philippines: An Overview

Mabuhay!!! /ma-boo-high/
-this is the official greeting, we, Filipinos use to exclaim in welcoming guests in which both arms are raised above the heads.
It means "long live" in English.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Like all the countries in the world, the Philippines had a long record of history, that a 1 year studying isn?t enough.
The people today are mostly polynesians, also with Spanish, Chinese and American blood.

Geographically, the Philippines is considered as part of the Southeast Asia but its cultures has similarities with the cultures of Latin America in religion and traditions.
This is maybe due to the Spanish colonization that gave a big difference in culture with the other Asian countries.

Catholicism, being the primary religion in the country, was influenced by the Spaniards and most of the Filipino words were borrowed from the Spanish language.

Unpredictable Weather Conditions

The Philippines is a tropical country having only 2 seasons: dry and wet/rainy season.

Dry Season usually starts from December to May. Actually, there are 2 kinds of dry season in the country- the cool and hot dry seasons.

The cool dry season starts from December to February which is just right due to the Holiday celebrations of Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.
The climate temperature drops up to 20degrees which is already considered to be cold in a country not used to it.

The hot dry season starts from March to May which also signals the start of summer getaways! Sometimes the temperature rises up to 40 degrees Celsius, like you?re being roasted under the sun!
Rainy Season starts in the month of June to November, so always be prepared to have an umbrella with you.

Due to the country?s geography, the Philippines become the favorite spot to hit by typhoons.

The Philippines? government agency responsible in weather forecasts called the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or commonly called PAG-ASA is continuously being improved to update the country regarding weather conditions and if there is any tropical cyclone being seen approaching the area of responsibility.

Weather news updates are usually reported during the local evening news around 630-730pm.

The Philippine weather is always unpredictable.
in a while the sun shines brightly, a few hours later, it rains!

My advise: Just always be prepared!

This is my Country

The Philippines is often overlooked due to its location but only people who explore this country will say that this is full of natural wonders.

Being the 2nd largest archipelago in the world, consisting of 7, 107 islands, this claims one of the world?s best diving and snorkeling beaches and islands.

The Philippines consists of 3 main islands, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
I was born in Baguio City, in Luzon. Five years after I was born, my family moved from one place to another. I call ourselves- NPA (No Permanent Address); my parents thought of relocating a lot (due to business). I haven't realize about the effect of it until I grow older.. but it's fun! I met a lot of people, I may not remember all of them and they may not remember me too; but I learned from their different life experiences and what I am today.. I owe it from them.

Despite being one of the 3rd world countries afflicting the nation; poverty is not a hindrance to go on and be happy and I learned to love this country because of its people and uniqueness.
