San Rocco Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 6 photos

A Hidden Gem

San Rocco in Turrite in the Province of Lucca, Italy, is a hidden gem nestling in deep forested hills close to the Alpi Apuane National Park. Retaining the charm of a small unspoilt village, it offers the traveller a haven of peace and tranquility. Not easy to find but well worth seeking out is the family run restaurant of Al Colletto, which provides traditional and authentic family cooking, including delicious tagliattelle ragu, and mushroom risotto using locally sourced mushrooms (from a secret location known only to the proprietor). the restaurant is open 6 days a week (closed on Tuesdays) and also doubles as the village shop.
If you are looking to escape from the stresses of life and want a quiet place to relax and unwind, then the area of San Rocco in Turrite is for you.

Alpi Apuane Walks

For people who enjoy walking a great place to start would be from the hostel at Alta Matana in the Alpi Apuane National Park. There are several walks from this point, with varying degrees of difficulty and, providing you have a good pair of walking boots and a moderate level of fitness, can be a really enjoyable and invigorating experience. The views are very well worth the effort.

Back to Nature

The peace and tranquility of the Alpi Apuane region connects the traveller to the natural world, where mountain trails invite you to enjoy fragrant meadow flowers and wild herbs, and marvel at the butterflies and birds. Hillside sounds of bleating goats and sheep, cow bells and wild horses, give way to the strangely silent , earthy woodland walks. Heaven on earth.........
