Billingham is a small town located in the north east of england in the area around the river tees, with nearby towns including stockton, hartlepool and the better known middlesbrough(see other travel page). It was orignally a saxon settlement in the 7th century but is now a mainly residential area surrounded by many amenities such as some fabulous schools, doctors surgerys, train lines, post offices and shops. Billingham isnt really somewhere for tourists or somewhere to visit but hopefully this page will be of use if you find yourself here. Billingham town centre is currently undergoing a lot of regeneration to bring it up to more modern standards. Sadly alot of places in the area have gone down hill however there is still a reasonable amount to be found here. The old part of billingham is still are largely industrial area with many chemical sites close by. There are also the rememnants of haverton hill not far from these a town sadly now demolised which arose round the doc area of the tees in the 1920's. Billingham also has 2 local football clubs both in minor divisions, aswell as the ice hockey team billingham bombers.
N.B THE PAGE WILL BE ADDED TO GRADUALLY DUE TO TIME LIMITATION AND IS SADLY NOT YET FINISHED. OTHER LOCAL AREAS COVERED IN THIS PAGE CAN BE SEEN BELOW. MIDDLESBROUGH AND OTHER TOWNS WILL BE DEALT WITH UNDER THE MIDDLESBROUGH PAGE, THEREFORE THIS PAGE WILL ONLY BE ABOUT BILLINGHAM, SEDGEFIELD, WOLVISTON AND WYNYARD.
Wolviston is a local village located closely to billingham despite being nestled amongst some busy road areas wolviston has a lovely atomosphere. The village was originally named due to the wolves which previously inhabited the area. The village is a thirving community and many wonderful things to see such as the local duck pond. The village is a peaceful area and is a nice place just to come to walk around and take in tradtional village living even the local primary school looks pretty. The village also has two pubs which are very traditional.
Wynyard is an exclusive private development just outside of billingham, which has brought many things to the area. The development know attracts some high profile people to the housing for example many footballers have houses here. The land has been built around the original wynyard estate owned by lord and lady londonderry. The area is extremly well developed and keeps some lovely woodland areas and wildlife in the area. Wynyard also has a challenging golf course which is constantly being developed and was recently host to a large competition(the seve trophy) which found some well known golfing names in the area. A recent development to nearby wynyard was the introduction of the samsung factory (now obsolete) which saw a new service station being built in the area bringing hotels and eating areas.
Sedgefield is a picturesque village off the A689 just outside of billingham. The town has a famous resident in that it is Tony Blairs constituency the british priminister till 2006 whom actually lives just outside sedgefield in a smaller village called trimdon. The village is beautifully sophisticated and rural and has some lovely pubs/restaurants amd hotels which offer stunning views of the country whilst still being close enough to transport and local towns. The town has a beautiful church (St Edmunds) which is from medieval times and was restored last in 1856.
The outskirts of the town also has a racecourse which brings in alot of large races throughout the year
- Pros:Some lovely surrounding areas, nice people
- Cons:Some places have gone down hill

Great tips on your home Kat. Must confess I had never heard of Billingham before, but I don't know this part of the country at all.
