Caves, Peaks and Great campgrounds!

While driving east on Hwy 50, we decided to stop at this little know gem of a National Park. It's halfway down Nevada, by the Utah border.
A small park, but HUGE views. At the Visitors Center, they have tours of Lehman Caves, just behind on the hillside. Not as big as Carlsbad Caverns, but a great variety of stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, straw formations, etc. Nice tour, but DON'T GO if your group has a baby or toddlers in it. We had a baby and it proceeded to pitch a fit while deep inside the bowels of the cave. Very nerve-racking!
The campgrounds are really nice. If you have a smaller rig, camper, tent, etc. go up to the top at Wheeler Peak. Very scenic, nice trails, pristine and gorgeous campsites - all terraced with lots of trees and space for privacy. No electric, though. High altitude - 10,000 ft.!
We went late September, and the aspen trees were magnificent!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Few crowds, private & beautiful campsites
  • Cons:A little out of the way!
  • In a nutshell:A little piece of heaven for us mortals

A wooden boat festival sounds interesting. They don't make em like that anymore!!! Well actually there is a company or two but they're very expensive.
