Watch out for those bugs! - Denver

Watch out for those bugs!

Six Flags-Elitch Gardens Amusement Park Elitch Gardens Review

Mary Elitch first established an amusement park in Denver over 100 years ago. It was moved several years ago to downtown, and bought by Six Flags. Some really good rides, if you like wooden roller coasters, don't miss Mister Twister. It's rickety, fast and fun! Make sure to look for the 1927 Carousel, a Philadelphia Tobaggan Company classic. I worked on the restoration of the horses a few years ago. They had over 250 different shades of paint to mix! The cherubs on the carts are particularly cool.

Address: Off Speer Blvd. (south), just east of I-25

Bronze at entrance to Leanin' Tree - Denver

Bronze at entrance to Leanin' Tree

Leanin' Tree Museum of Western Art

Right across the way from Celestial Seasonings tea factory (see Things to Do tip for that).
Leanin' Tree makes greeting cards & stationery with western themes. Some pretty corny, but some pretty cool. You can buy all their cards and gifties in their gift shop.

HOWEVER, their museum of Western Art is FREE to tour. And well worth the time it takes to go through it! Great place to take dad or grandpa after you've dragged them thru the tea tasting and gift shop over at Celestial Seasonings. The museum has really wonderful fine art and a very impressive collection of Bronze sculptures from famous artists depicting western life. If it's nice out, stroll through the new outdoor sculpture garden with some amazing oversized bronzes.

Address: 6055 Longbow Drive, Boulder, CO

Directions: From Denver - west on Hwy 36 about 15 miles, exit on Foothills Parkway and head north through Boulder until the Parkway turns into Hwy 119 and starts toward Longmont. Turn right on 63rd Street, south to Longbow Drive and west to Leanin’ Tree.

Madagascar Vanilla Red Tea

Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory Tour

The tour is FREE and takes 45 minutes.

• Introductory video - hear the Celestial story from its roots to full bloom!

Walk through the Art Gallery and view original paintings from our tea boxes, created by some of the country's most famous illustrators. And visit our eclectic collection of very Celestial teapots and teacups. THESE are AWESOME!!! See if they'll let you linger after the tour and enjoy these longer. Breezing through isn't enough time!

Visit the Factory, where 8 million tea bags are produced daily.

Experience The Mint Room, and encounter the mind-clearing power of peppermint and spearmint. "Stored in the enclosed room are crates of mint; visitors are bombarded with peppermint and spearmint. It really clears your sinuses."

The gift shop is great. Nice colorful mugs, gift packs and "damaged" tea at discount prices, too. Tastes are free, and every tea you can imagine to try out.

This is a newer outdoor garden in the Denver area. It has a great lagoon, with lots of Frogs and blooming water lilies. The cut garden is wonderful! Also, do not miss the garden train exhibit. REI Denver Flagship Store - Denver

REI Denver Flagship Store

REI Flagship Store

The REI Flagship store was recently built in the old Forney Auto Museum building. It's a great old brick building just west of downtown, along the Platte River. The store has a climbing wall, chill room to test sleeping bags, bike store & testing track, and even a Starbucks. Right on the bike path fork, watch kayaks navigate the Platte outside, or go for a ride south to Cherry Creek or east into downtown Denver.
