"zChris' Rosseau Township" Rosseau Lake by zChris

Rosseau Township is an extremely rustic area, even when compared with the Muskoka Lakes to its south. When heading along one of the highways toward Rosseau, the central village, one has the distinct impression of becoming immersed in the vastness of the Canadian Shield and its incessant wilderness. Telephone poles along the roads are driven into sheer granite rock by metal piles, and even the main highways revert to dirt roads at a point. Rosseau village itself is a collection of ramshackle 19th century wooden structures, one of which is the general store, continually in operation for probably over a hundred years. This demarcates the northern edge of the Muskoka Lakes region, and, indeed, it is closer to North Bay and Parry Sound than to distant Gravenhurst, the gateway to the region for Torontonians.
