How many Palestinian (and even Jews....) lifes is worth the quiet living of some immigrants cheated by the Sionist propaganda?
I've been working in Palestine with Arab people for some time, I've also visited Israel and I had the chance of talking extensivley with brilliant and committed Israeli citizens: the issue is really a difficult one to be solved out, of course. Just one thing I'm sure I've learnt: extremists are dangerous and even worse when religion is used as a basis for discussion. As a matter of fact, nobody is allowed to negotiate and make concessions on behalf of his God, so it is likely no compromise will ever be found using religious basis. Sionism is as dangerous an ideology as Hamas's: how could you imagine tens of millions of Jews should be granted the right to live in a land God itself "promised" them??
Then, when you see the images from the battlefield, the results of injured and casualties, you make a comparison of the arms used by both sides, the comments made by the media (why a Jew is "brutally slaughtered" and the Arabs are "inadvertedly shelled"?) ...
When I went there, I tried to imagine how beatiful it was when people traveled freely among the hills dividing Beirut, Damascus, Amman and Jerusalem; how trade flourished; how the civilisation improved through the exchange of ideas. And now?
The map (from
Le Monde Diplomatique - dec. 2000 gives an idea of the proposed Palestinian "state". sliced into three and penetrated by Israeli roads to make internationally illegal settlements reachable: is this a place any of you would envisage to live?
